The popularity of crossbows has exploded in recent years due to an increased belief that an apocalypse is inevitable.  This belief is fueled by television shows and social media with no end in sight.  The belief is that crossbows will be the best weapon for defense when the zombies come to attack.

This increase in interest has led to an increase in crossbow hunting as well.  Crossbow hunting is more challenging than hunting with a rifle, but easier than hunting with a regular bow.  Hunters have stormed at the opportunity to use this popularity to seek out the challenge.

With the demand for crossbows on the rise, the supply was shore to follow.  Unfortunately, many of these new crossbows are not made with the best quality materials or with safety in mind.

Whether you are preparing for a zombie attack, or looking to go hunting, you want to make sure you get the best crossbow for yourmoney.  The four main things that you will need to look for are price, performance, and safety.

Price

When rating the price of a crossbow, you will need to keep in mind that this rating is relative to the budget you are working with.  You will soon discover that there are crossbows for sale for prices ranging from $150 all the way up t0 $2500.

After you figure out what your budget looks like, you should be able to find a few different models in that range.  Make sure that you consider the accessories and starter arrows in your budget if they are not included in the purchase.

Performance

The performance of the crossbow is obviously going to make a huge impact on which crossbow your purchase.  You want to make sure that your crossbow is going to be able to take out whatever you are looking to hunt.

A crossbows power is measured in how many feet per second (FPS) that arrow is traveling when it hits the optimal range.  For most medium sized game in North America, you will need at least 300 FPS.

Safety

The third thing to look for might be the most important.  You don’t want to purchase a crossbow that is going to put you and everyone around you in danger.  Make sure that the crossbow you are looking at is as safe as possible before you purchase it.
